RESTORATION
The construction of an antique tile-stove usually does not only consist of the setting up of the tile-stove at the desired location. Before the setting up, the defective tiles are cleaned and assembled in a way, that a faultless statically sound construction is guaranteed. Then, after the last tile has been placed, the stove can be restored. If and how much is restored is defined in discussion with the owner, consultant or curator. There is no aimless restoration effort, Fredi Mathys works with a clear concept. The key is to “soothe” the object, to retouch chipped off glaze, flaws, cracks etc. The stove will not be new after the treatment. After a successful restoration, the oven will look the way it looked when it first was constructed many 100 years ago; clean and quiet. To achieve this, many small details have to be considered, already when setting up the stove. Rely on the knowledge and experience of Fredi Mathys.
